Adam why don't you make another site where people can add their own content. I really thought that was awesome.

sorry to spam your thread Mike, but anybody wanting the source code for any of my tuts that were downloads better get em now cause they r getting deleted...I'll let em sit til Friday then they go bye bye, along with my yt vids.

No sense in wasting server space for stuff that may never be used again.

See I know adam had his post we all read it although I think that those videos where pointed towards this site not agenst,
They where good quality videos to improve the user interaction in web intersect.

I vote they should be aloud back on.

Adam you sure this is a good move?

You could just hide the user generated material buried in a couple links...

This only applies for videos?

Oh well...I mean it sucks for you guys who had a lot of great video tutorials but I only had a few and my tuts weren't even all that good lol.  I was planning on adding more tutorials but now I guess I'll just delete my youtube channel because I can't say click here to get the source files if there are no source files, lol.  I was making tuts for the members here at developphp, not for youtube scavengers...that's why I mentioned the site hella times in my vids and linked everything to here.  I was hoping to help drive traffic here but help is not really needed.  I understand his decision, it will make things a crap ton easier for him to manage.  I cannot say I fully agree with this as what we had going on here was truely original and not found anywhere else on the web, but again I do understand why it's being done.  A lot of people were posting re-posts of shit already made or putting up horrid tutorials that had bad sound quality or were just unhelpful in general.  Ya can't pick favorites otherwise people get all butt hurt and that's just even more to deal with.  At least I can try to help people in the forums still.  Happy

You guys all still have Youtube. It isnt the end of mankind here. I say keep posting all you want on Youtube. Just leave all references to it off of this website. No big deal. Life continues. If a tutorial was removed that you want to see request Adam make a tutorial. He said he will start making more tutorials now so it shouldnt be a problem.

I wouldnt worry about wasting youtube server space Lewis. About 10000000000000 people have already beat you to it Happy.

Well Adam has his reason i guess. Anyways good work all, thanks for the tutorials, i've learnt alot from them :)

RE: Taking DevCMS out
by Adam - Tue Sep 28, 2010 04:32:11 PM
Yea without boring you guys with the 50 different reasons it does me no good to have a system like it was, it was counterproductive for me in so many ways.

I know that material supplying members here are pissed at me but this must take place, even if it means I piss some people off that I respect, for what I feel is the good of my site.

Too many people are going to begin to copy my material with their own twists. I must nip them advertising their lessons on my site, in the bud. And just to be 100% fair to all tutors(since araound 25-30 tutors had placed material here) I opted to disallow all and remove all, this way I do not hurt shane feelings if I keep Lewis' lessons and remove his. Tunevision would be left wondering what is wrong with him if I leave rmazook's flash tutorials. When tunevision is simply amazing.

So you see gentlemen, I have many things to consider. And I cannot just take anybody and everbody's tutorials. Kids... dumb people, inexperienced people, people that think they are awesome and act that way, etc... have ruined it for anybody adding material here that has some skills. I can't do this anymore with the tutors like I was. Plus the whole coding and securing my site for all these people to be in my backend is not something I care to keep developing. It is eating up my time. So while everybody is making their copycat tutorial series, I am left not making new material and coding my site to accomodate a bunch of dorks.

Also... Webintersect is going to bring a whole new wave of copycats my way and I am putting up blockers and shutting this side of things down now in anticipation. I will murder people if I do not get this situation in check. There are 100 people on youtube right now making a PHP MySQL member based site tutorial series cuz they saw mine did well and they want the traffic. It is bad that they have no ideas of their own so I must be diligent in being sure they cannot post here.

There are also many many other factors in this decision. I want to see you guys have to work hard on your own and build yourselves up like I did. Not lean on my little old site for propulsion. Facebook, Myspace, and Youtube, and twitter were built for marketing and spam blasting and that is what I used(youtube). Most members here do this. Not all but most, and most of the tutors. I do not like it. And it ruins it for the genuine guys, which I cannot say for sure who they are. This site is focused on a subject like most do not which is what makes it so neat. Every other site in the world is all over the place with their content and subject matter. Get people talking about your work by doing some good shit... that is all it takes.

BTW... I am still subscribed to all of your videos. The community at youtube for video tutorials is much stronger than it is here. And is where you should all focus your sharing and marketing efforts.

I'm like that though, maybe it's that I am surrounded by a wife and 3 daughters...lol I'm always trying to keep everything nice and tidy and organized. I am always throwing away shit and then gettin my butt ripped the next day, lol.

Ill break you of that nasty clean freak habit Lewis. You should see my desk. I can hardly reach my keyboard or even see the floor through all the books and papers.

I hope you didnt take down the Youtube vids for the newsletter app, I was going to use that soon. Didnt you put that app on Adobe somewhere too?

ROR @ lewis!  I've deleted my mazookstutorials account.  I will now focus on helping myself rather than helping others(I know it sounds selfish but before I can truely start helping others, I've got to know what the hell I'm doin!).  I still have a long way to go with webdesign/marketing/everything else that goes along with it.  I'm gonna start with webintersect as I believe it's the best way for me to start learning php.  Screw random tutorials on stupid php echo this and print that...fuck all that shit charles!

Well I have a solution...

You could just send your videos to Adam and let him upload them to Flashbuilding.

YOU CAN EDIT / DELETE ARTICLES AND TUTORIALS FROM YOUR ACCOUNT OR PROFILE. I LEAVE IT UP TO YOU SIR. I WILL DENY NO CONTENT.

It's sad to hear that Adam has to go to these extremes but I can almost say I saw it coming.  Word gets out and people leech because they don't have a creative brain cell in their head.  And in some ways worse, you get the idiots that are all i need this now or that now, fix my shit because I promised somebody something by the end of the week, etc. I can completely see why he'd get annoyed beyond the telling of it.

On a personal note, I've always thought that this was one really amazing site to learn from.  While I may not be a professional web developer by trade,  its been nice to see things used on webintersect then try to understand what is gong on and apply it in completely different ways and take them in unique directions far different than what they may have been initially intended. On some level I hope that this was the original intent of the entire project.

I can understand his frustration because it's happened to me in different technical arenas.  It takes a while to get to grips with the reality that there are dirt bags everywhere trying to, and WILL capitalize on other peoples hard work. In whatever direction Adam decides to take the site, hopefully it'll remain a fantastic resource for people that wish to earnestly learn something and be able to come away with a valuable skill and a deeper understanding of the subject in whatever form it takes.

It hurts my heart. I loved sharing my knowledge here but now I feel limited. No chatbox (old subject), no tutorials of members. I feel so distance from other members now. Somehow tutorials brought members together, learning from each other.

Well seems like I will need to remake my tutorials without any link or mention of developPHP and have the downloads on my site. Now I am like others here who have and are still learning, but also teach others what we have learnt. I am not the best by far, but I think I give something back that is needed or can be used.

I do not think that anyone is happy with a total removal of tuts. Granted that some may have been needed to got rid of,but I think that the site is stepping backwards.

OK. At the end of the day, it is Adams site to do with as he wants. I can also see what he is saying and it dose make sense. Though, will it work now that everyone liked it the way it was before. We will just need to see how it works out.
