Opening and Dynamically Reading Directory Folder Contents
Using the opendir() and readdir() functions together in PHP we can do some dynamic things regarding interacting with folders and directories on our server through script. There may be times where it is handy to be able to open and access the contents of a directory we have on server.
<?php // SPECIFY THE DIRECTORY $dir = "images/"; // OPEN THE DIRECTORY $dirHandle = opendir($dir); // LOOP OVER ALL OF THE FILES while ($file = readdir($dirHandle)) { // IF IT IS NOT A FOLDER, AND ONLY IF IT IS A .JPG WE ACCESS IT if(!is_dir($file) && strpos($file, '.jpg')>0) { echo "$dir"."$file"."<br />"; } } // CLOSE THE DIRECTORY closedir($dirHandle); ?>
This code below does a similar thing but uses the glob() function of PHP instead of the opendir() function. opendir() can be used remotely while glob() cannot. Otherwise they are the same.
<?php $dir = "images/"; // LOOP OVER ALL OF THE TARGET FILES(remove 'jpg' string below to target all files) foreach(glob($dir ."*.jpg*") as $file) { echo "$file"."<br />"; } ?>
