array_filter ( ) - Filter array elements using a callback function
The array_filter() array function in PHP will filter elements of an array by using a callback function we can put into place in our script. For normal use it requires two parameters. The first parameter is the array to be filtered. The second parameter is the name of the callback function you wish to execute.

My callback function is a little function I wrote custom that will help me filter out all non string elements. So if I needed a way to keep only strings in my array and remove everything else, I could use this approach as my array filter.

<?php
// Callback function that is sent values from the array_filter() function
// This lies dormant until we run the array_filter() function below
function evalstr ($x) {
    if (
is_string($x)) { // Evaluate if this element is a string
        return true;
    }
}
// Array that you want to run through the function
$myArray = array("Jack",4,"Paul",9);
// Run the array_filter function which fires off our function above
$newArray array_filter($myArray"evalstr");
// The $newArray elements will be filtered by your custom code
foreach ($newArray as $key => $value) {
        echo
"$key - <strong>$value</strong> <br />"
}
?>
